Gdańsk: Main and Old Town

Description

Learn about the history of the 1,000-year-old city as you stroll through its historic center. You will hear, among others: about medieval knightly brotherhoods, 17th-century aristocratic hygiene customs and heroic fights for a lost cause. You will also learn why children in the Middle Ages drank beer, whether a merchant ship can be named after you and why it is not worth going to strip clubs. Besides, you'll see one of the three largest brick churches in the world, the oldest port crane in Europe and a water mill, which was at the time of construction the largest industrial investment on the continent.

On the walking route we will see, among others:

  • Main City:
    – Upland Gate, Torture House, Długa Street, Długi Targ, Długie Pobrzeże with a view of Granary Island, 15th-century Crane, Mariacka Street, St. Mary's Basilica (optional / paid additionally – entrance to the church tower with a beautiful view)
  • Old Town:
    – Building of the Polish Post Museum (without visiting), Church of St. Catherine, the Great Mill and the Amber Museum (without visiting).
